Read the full description
Forester is an atmospheric forest management game, where you learn to cultivate a thriving forest, cutting it for wood to ultimately restore a remote forestry estate, and find your place among the trees.
Story is delivered in bite-sized portions rather than through one overarching narrative. The scale is not that of a grand city builder, but rather a single valley with a single Forester, finding their way through life.
Rebuild Your Estate
Pick one of 3 scenarios with unique land, buildings and challenges, and bring your estate back to its former glory, one wood plank at a time.
Unlock a unique path through the progression tree of each structure you rebuild. Build upgrades by spending your home-grown wood and time, gaining new permanent bonuses to your forestry.
Assign your Forester to work at the stations they have built to gain efficiency bonuses. At least as long as you get enough sleep.
Grow a Thriving Forest
Experience a relaxing woodland life, where cutting a tree is as easy as the click of a button, and where patience literally pays off.
Guide each tree through its lifetime, from planting a sapling, through diligent cultivation and harvests of new saplings, to eventually turning it into much-needed wood.
As trees age, they accumulate wood, but may also develop special traits depending on your cultivation regimen. Some trees don't produce much wood at all, but instead improve the ecosystem around them.
Write Your Own Story
As you establish your livelihood in the forest, things start to happen. There may yet be prior inhabitants of the valley who are waiting to make themselves heard.
Determine what kind of Forester you are by resolving unique dilemmas, encounters and anecdotes drawn from hundreds of possible situations.
Create your own character and let their personal characteristics unfold over time, with each decision made and every path taken.
Who’s the game for?
For those who dream of living far away from the hustle of civilization.
For those who want to take pride in the trees they've grown. Who want to feel both thrilled and mournful whenever one of their great oaks must finally fall to the axe.
For those who rejoice in seeing what was once old and broken brought back to life.
For those who enjoy stepping into a character's shoes, making their own choices, and finding their own story through dozens of small narrative encounters.
It's a casual, unhurried experience, with a gentle push forward but plenty of time to appreciate the smell of pine and the melody of the birbs.
What makes it special?
My previous project, Rubedo: The Occult Dawn, never made it into production. But it left me with a strong occult itch, one I now find myself scratching through the bite-sized stories and curious encounters scattered throughout Forester.
Another distinguishing feature is the modest scale of each scenario. Just one forester, a single valley, and the ruins of a woodland lodge, being the only thing standing between him and the elements.
The focus on the forester's identity, experiences, and decisions also sets the game apart from traditional management games. RPG elements, such as skill trees and character attributes, are there not simply to optimize production, but to deepen the experience of inhabiting this small world.
